WHAT WE GROW

SQUASH

Vibrant, nutritious and full of flavour, squash has been one of our signature export crops since the 80s. To this day around 95% of our squash is shipped off overseas to give the world a taste of what our slice of New Zealand has to offer.

WHERE DOES IT GROW?

We grow all of our tasty squash at our Gisborne & Chertsey farm from December through to March, making the most of the warm summer weather.

OUR PROCESS

How do we
harvest it?

We make sure all our squash has a delicious chestnut flavour and a dark green colour before harvesting.

Because of its size, we hand harvest our squash in a range of sizes to suit our customers needs. Then, our innovative water float system helps keep the squash hydrated and grades it by size and quality.

Once we’ve selected the very best produce, we hand-pack and deliver it throughout New Zealand and across the world.

Did you know?

  • Squash was one of the first crops we grew when we started LeaderBrand, meaning we’ve been growing it for over 35 years. Today it is still one of our signature export crops. If you are interested in export get in touch with our team today!
  • We grow a range of various varieties of squash, and we’re constantly experimenting and innovating to make sure ours are the best they can be. We currently grow a range of different varieties including Kuriyutaka and Marron d’Or. We continue to trial new varities each year, testing what grows well and most importantly what tastes the best!
